For this part of the project, we were assigned to create a conceptual design, revisit our sketches, and create a storyboard.
Designer's Mental Model
For our mental model, we envisioned our application as a phone app that allows users to navigate roads, streets, and sidewalks while riding a bike. Users will be able to get directions, traffic updates, estimated arrival times, and will be able to see any hazards along their way. The app will have a digital interface that shows their location and where they should be heading, but it will also read off directions for users who aren’t able to look at their phone while biking. Additionally, users will be able to report hazards, accidents, or any traffic updates to the app so information is crowdsourced among users.
Conceptual Design
The conceptual design for our project revolved around integrating a phone app with a central server that contains live information about the world and uses that information to guide users who ride bicycles. Users will sign into the app and then put in an address, or pick from a list of nearby bike racks, before being relayed directions, hazards, and predictions based on the information the central server contains. As the users start moving, the server will track their location and provide updates along the way so the users are informed about the route, and the server is informed about how long it actually takes.
